In a week and a half the Euro Oppo meet will take place. 20 people. Nürburgring  and Spa. We’ll get to drive both, in our own cars. My question to you: which game offers the best practice?

Bonus points for games that can be downloaded for (almost?) free, which offer an online multiplayer and don’t require a console or state of the art game pc. Graphics quality is irrelevant.

Forza 6 or Assetto Corsa have the most accurate/up to date representations of the tracks in question.

And Forza 6 Apex is free (on Windows 10), although it needs a pretty beefy PC to run poorly. I guess you could turn it down to 720p and still have a slideshow.

If and that’s a big if, I drive round the ‘ring, I’ll drive like an undertaker. Spa should be fine since it’s a parade lap behind a pace car.

That doesen’t necessarily preclude you from hooning:

It’s not perfect, but Project CARS was fairly cheap on Steam awhile back, a couple years old so the system requirements for PC aren’t as taxing, and has both Spa and Nurburgring as available tracks.

E90M3 and I practiced on Forza 4 before going to the ring. It did a pretty ok job at teaching you the basics of the track/public toll road*. I also watched this:

Really listen to what he says; it’s really cool when you can hit proper apexes and such.

I wouldn’t push my car much either. It’s my daily driver and I have zero experience on tracks. Risking a crash isn’t worth it. I’d like to know what to expect though.

We’ve been playing Forza 4 and if that’s anything to go by we’ll be blisteringly fast right until the moment we clip a kerb wrong in which case we’ll violently flip over, wrecking the car utterly. At which point our car will ghost out, return to the track, and continue on at a much-reduced pace (damage being turned on).

Should be a doddle ;)
